Vernal Utah Real Estate Information

Vernal is located in the northeast corner of the state three hours east of Salt Lake City and is the largest city in Uintah County. Unlike many major Utah cities, Vernal was not settled by Mormon pioneers but began as an Indian Reservation. As of the 2010 census, the population of Vernal was 9,089. The city has a racial make-up of 83.1% White, 11.8% Hispanic, 1.9% American Indian, and 3.2% other races.

There are approximately 3,500 households living in the city and the average household size is 2.77. The estimated median household income for Vernal is $48,307, approximately $7,000 below the Utah average. Housing in the area has an estimated value of $163,693 and a mean price of $173,075. At 82.2, the cost of living index for Vernal is less than the U.S. average of 100. Vernal has remarkable natural resources which provide many good-paying jobs within the community.

The city supports both public and higher education and has many high quality schools including Ashley Elementary, Discovery Elementary, Vernal Junior High, and Uintah High School. Vernal also houses Uintah Basin Applied Technology College and a regional campus of Utah State University, both of which provide residents with quality education enabling them to enter the workforce with many different skills.

Vernal is known for its beautiful view of the Uintah Mountains and the surrounding desert landscape. This geography is ideal for many outdoor recreation including hunting, fishing, biking, river rafting, and hiking. Some local attractions include the Dinosaur National Monument, McConkie Ranch, Utah Field House of Natural History State Park, Red Fleet State Park. The community center offers a variety of classes and enrichment activities that are fun for the whole family.
