There are three major ways to get land line telephone services in Utah. The Traditional Land Line, Cable Digital Phone, and High Speed Internet Phone. Here are the major phone service providers in Utah.

The traditional "phone line" Local Telephone service provider for most of Utah is provided by Qwest. Your standard land line telephone. A basic land line can start at about $11 a month, but then after all the taxes, franchise fees and phone fees it gets up closer to $20 a month. One reason many people are usuing only Cell Phones. Qwest does offer good discounts when you bundle their local and long distance phone services with their Satellite TV (Direct TV) and their DSL High Speed Internet Service. |

Comcast Cable also offers digital phone service. The phone service is a pretty decent price for the promotional period, when it is bundled with other services, but by itself is not nearly as cheap as a traditional land line or internet based phone provider. Comcast Cable offers the highest speed high speed cable internet. It is also the most expensive of the high speed internet providers, but can be affordable during the promotinal periods when you bundle it with Cable TV and Digital Phone. Cable Internet may not be as secure as other internet services. It is the most expensive of the High Speed Internets, but is almost as cheap when bundled with other Comcast Services.

Satellite Internet - Hughes Net - Satellite Internet can be hooked up at any rural location with a Southern Exposure. Satellite Internet is among the most expensive. It requires the most up front and is not available if you live in an Apartment or Rental Houses But for many rural locations it is the only option when High Speed Internet is a must.

Utah TV Providers
There are three major television providers in Northern Utah. Comcast Cable - and the Satellite TV providers Dish Network, and Direct TV.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Satellite TV vs. Cable Television
Satellite TV is available to any house, anywhere in the country, but it may not be available in all apartments and rental properties. Satellite is all Digital and offers very nice features. It is usually much less expensive than Digital Cable and offers the best DVR service and High Definition Programming. Comcast also offers Digital Cable, but it is substantially more expensive after the promotional period ends. The advantage of Comcast is its availability for short term use, no contracts are required, and it is every bit as cheap as Satellite during the promotional periods. It also offers the .MTN channel which offers BYU and UTAH sports. The satellite providers can't provide this channel to many Utahns who are avid college sports fans.

Dish Network offers the most affordable pay TV option in Utah. Their family package is just $19.99 a month. They have the best, and least expensive DVR service. Dish Network is the best digital TV option if you want to set up multiple Televisions, and if you want more high Definition programming. Nobody offers more HD channels than DISH TV.

Direct TV - Direct TV's basic package is not as cheap as DISH Networks, but it includes a lot more channels. Many of the channels people are used to with their basic cable, are not available in DISH's Family, or Top 100 package, but are available in Directs basic package. Direct TV is also the only television provider of the NFL network. Direct TV can be purchased through Qwest and discounts are given when it is bundled with Qwests DSL, and phone services. |

Comcast Cable TV - Comcast Cable is the most expensive of the Utah Television providers, but when bundled with internet, and or phone is very affordable. It's on demand services is better than that of the Satellite Brothers.
