South Salt Lake is located in northern Utah just 7 minutes south of its parent, Salt Lake City. The city’s history is closely tied to the history of Salt Lake City and began in 1847 when Mormon settlers entered the Salt Lake Valley. As of the 2010 census, the population of South Salt Lake was 23,617 with a racial make-up of 56.5% White, 29.1% Hispanic, 4.9% Asian, 4.1% Black, 2.0% American Indian, and 3.4% other races.
There are approximately 8,022 households and 4,588 families living in the city. Of the households, 37.7% are married couples living together, 30.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, and 42.4% are classified as non-families. The closest hospital is the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, 3 miles away.
