About Carbon County Utah

Carbon County is located two hours southeast of Salt Lake City in central Utah and is the county seat of Carbon County. The city is known for its beautiful scenery and is a great gateway to the many scenic and historical experiences in the area.

As of the 2010 census, the population of Price was 8,715 with a racial make-up of 82.4% White, 13.6% Hispanic, 1.0% American Indian, 1.0% Asian, and 2.0% other races. There are approximately 3,045 households and 2,085 families living in the area. Of the households, 53.2% are married couples living together, 34.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, and 31.5% are non-families. The estimated median household income for Price is $34,510, below the Utah average. Housing in the area has an estimated median value of $115,211 with a mean price of $122,776. As of March 2012, the cost of living index for the area is below the U.S. average of 100 at 82.9.

The area is very safe and is a great place to raise a family or for those who love the great outdoor activities and scenery that central Utah has to offer. Price is home to Creekview Elementary, Castle Heights Elementary, Mont Harmon Junior High, and Carbon High School. For those seeking a quality higher education opportunity, Price also houses USU-College of Eastern Utah. The college has more than 60 degree programs, many that are focused on technical, vocational, and Associate Degree programs. Residents can receive hospital services at Castleview Hospital located in Price.

Price is only a short distance away from Nine Mile Canyon and both residents and tourists come to enjoy the canyon’s extensive Fremont and Ute rock art and shelters. For a fun and educational experience, the USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum is accredited by the American Association of Museums and holds both paleontological and archaeological collections, including indigenous Fremont people artifacts and fossils. The Manti-La Sal National Forest is also only a short distance away and contains excellent hiking and provides amazing views of Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park.
